The
Music of
Nicole Young

IÕm a vocal performer and
fiddle player with two country/bluegrass bands based in Garden, Michigan.
I got my start playing classical violin in
fifth grade.
In ninth grade, I was so shy at the try-outs
for the musical My Fair Lady, I
didnÕt even make it into the chorus. I did makeup instead!
Determined never to miss another musical, I
joined the high school choir and then tried out for the Choral in 10th
grade - and made it!
In 11th grade, I starred as Anna in The
King and I.
During my college years, I dropped violin in
favor of singing.
During my child bearing years, I dropped
everything in favor of babies Š four of them!
I picked my instrument back up in time to play
a rusty rendition of Amazing Grace at my grandmotherÕs funeral.
Years later, the pastorÕs wife recruited me for
her bluegrass/gospel group, The Country Roses. I had to rethink everything IÕd
learned about the violin, but can now play by ear and sing harmony (not at the
same time).
